I had to find an old email address, so I sorted the INBOX on name and found it. I noticed right below the entry one with the subject: Re: Everyone on the Planet...
Hmm…
That was the subject on the email blast I sent out saying I thought everyone on the planet should see the movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. That little eblast sparked more response and controversy than every other eblast. Some people thanked me for the message, and quite a few were outraged that I would “use this platform to further a political agenda”. We had the record number of unsubscribes to the mailing list.
SO I was curious to read what someone had written back then. Plus it was so random that I just had to. The person write back, thanked me, and said that the movie didn’t tell the real bad news. So I hit the reply key and said “what is that bad news”. She wrote back and said she didn’t remember specifically, but her friend did and she forward my query tot the friend.
The friend is Dr. Timothy Foresman, Director-General, 5th International Symposium on Digital Earth. So he then emailed me “the really bad news.” By then I was intrigued by the Digital Earth thing (whatever that was) and the randomness of it all. He said he was having great discussions with Dr. Ed Mitchell (founder of IONS). Ed and I had a discussion over dinner once about how the random features in the Down the Rabbit Hole DVD would make it an Oracle.
By now I’m thinking that some people out there on our mailing list want to see this, so I went to the web site and checked it out. Very interesting. And that’s how the mention of the upcoming Digital Earth event got into this issue.
Einstein said “God does not play dice”. (To which Heisenberg said “Stop telling God what to do”.) Physics jokes.
